About the Department
The Department of Social
and Behavioral Sciences is committed to providing an educational
experience based on recognized academic and professional standards
of excellence. The Department provides students with knowledge that
integrates theoretical and practical experience, offers students
the opportunity to engage in research in their major field, encourages
student participation in professional organizations, and prepares
students to pass exit and licensure examinations. Four major programs
are offered, Political Science, Psychology, Social
Work, and Sociology, for
which it awards the bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees
are awarded. Two minors are also offered in Gerontology and Criminal Justice.
Students have access to the Social Sciences Computer Lab that is used by professors across the disciplines. This lab supports courses focusing on governmental issues, healthcare, gerontology, mental health, research methods, and social policy.
