Academics are the heart of Central State. We are committed to producing graduates that are well qualified to move into their chosen profession or go on to graduate school.
INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGES and LITERATURES
International Languages & Literatures offers courses in Spanish and French, Swahili, Chinese, African Literature and Latin American Literature.
The program trains students majoring in areas that utilize foreign language skills; offers three levels of courses focused on language structure, vocabulary, reading, writing, conversation, and translation; helps students appreciate cultural diversity; and supports the University General Education language requirement for the B.A degree.
Students who might use an international language in their careers are strongly encouraged to spend two semesters studying abroad.
Highlights
Our language offerings will soon expand, to include courses in Arabic, and Minors in Spanish and French.
Careers
Studying an international language enriches the Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and prepares you for various careers or higher degrees in such fields as Linguistics, Languages, Diplomacy, and World Literatures. In any post-baccalaureate plan, faculty mentors and the Career Services Center provide support.
Preparation
For all Humanities majors we suggest you complete four years of high school English and two years of a second language. We encourage your enrollment in Advanced Placement (AP) courses and will negotiate credit, placement or exemption for AP scores of 3 (qualified) or higher in relevant subjects.
Dr. Kwawisi Tekpetey, International Languages & Literatures Coordinator
