Director's Statement
The Central State University Center for International Studies responds to emerging needs and opportunities in local, national, and international communities. Rapid advances in communication, increasing mobility of populations, ubiquitous nature of the Internet - these and more mean that individuals, cultures, countries, and continents will increasingly interact with one another across both traditional borders and virtual boundaries.
High rise of interdependence will ensure that political, economic, and cultural events in one region will have greater impact on other regions. Citizens must be globally literate if they are to participate effectively in this increasingly international society. Whether they work in business, education, government, or the private not-for-profit community, Americans must now possess a better knowledge of other peoples and lifestyles beyond that expected of previous generations.
The Center for International Studies addresses this challenge in its programming, curriculum, and outreach. It is charged with the responsibility to coordinate all regional and international studies programs in the colleges of CSU. In addition, it provides international educational opportunities for the students, faculty, staff, and general community of the University.
The Center manages
the Center
for African Studies, and the International Media and Democracy
Project (IMDP), and the International Civil Society and Globalization Project,
The Center equally conducts conferences, seminars, and symposia.
The Center edits and publishes all Center presentations, proceedings,
and periodicals, including
the International Journal of African Studies(IJAS) and the African Affairs Bulletin (AAB).
