Job Description:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·        Assist in the formulation of goals and objectives for the library.

·        Prepares reports as needed.

·        Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the library.

·        Collaborate with Technical Services staff.

·        Coordinates all functions in the Technical Services area, including collection development and acquisition, cataloging, biding and processing of library materials.

·        Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with the teaching faculty.

·        Coordinates all aspects of library automation activities.

·        Prepares and administers the Technical Services area budgets, including academic department allocations.

·        Collaborates with library faculty and departmental faculty in building the library’s collections.

·        Administers personnel regulations.

·        Participates in and assists in the appointment of library personnel.

·        Formulates acquisitions and weeding policies.

·        Provide reference services according to an established schedule.

·        Engages in database management.

·        Performs other duties assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

·        Working knowledge of modern foreign language.

·        Ability to apply knowledge and training in a subject filed.

·        Ability to meet, communicate, and deal effectively with people.

·        Ability to make decisions within stated guidelines.

·         organizational skills.

·        Understanding of basic library principles, procedures, technology, goals, and philosophy of service.

·        Knowledge of the book publishing industry.

·        Knowledge of library networks, especially OCLC and OhioLINK.

·        Knowledge and understanding of growing Web-based reference and research services, particularly OhioLINK.

·        Understanding and experience with the application of current technology in a library and other instructional settings.

·        Ability to resolve most common computer hardware and software problems.

·        Demonstrated knowledge of new and emerging technologies and their application in an academic library.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

·        Education:  Master’s degree from an American Library Association-Accredited library school.

 

·        Experience:  At least five (5) years experience in an administrative technical services position.
