Job Summary:
Under general direction, researches, writes, and distributes University news and information; develops and cultivates local and national media relations; develops relationships with University Departments, maintaining information and news; writes articles and stories for and edits University publications and website.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Researches, writes, and distributes news and information regarding the
University. Develops, writes, and edits institutional news and information.
Consults with faculty to promote accomplishments, events and special programs.
Provides story ideas and articles for University Newsletter and Alumni publications.
Develops and manages public relations and media coverage strategy and data system. Manages and is accountable for media monitoring and reporting system.
Develops publicity plans for events
Assists in purchasing advertising space and time as required to educate stakeholders about Central State University.
Assists in the development of University Department brochures; scheduling photo shoots, revising copy, and managing production.
Provides articles, photos and information for the University website.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, English, journalism or related liberal arts field. A minimum of (3) years of experience in writing for a newspaper, magazine or a communications environment or Department is strongly desired.
Preferred experience in higher education environment with knowledge of integrated communication techniques that support brand identity is a plus.
Must be self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and an ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously.
