Inauguration of Cynthia Jackson-Hammond, Ed.D.

Greetings Alums, Students and Friends,

Welcome to Central State University’s Charter Day and Inauguration webpage!  We are pleased to announce the 126th Charter Day celebration and the Inauguration of our eighth President, Cynthia Jackson-Hammond, Ed.D.

Central State University, located in Wilberforce, Ohio, has a 126-year legacy of providing educational opportunities to students from Ohio and across the country. Charter Day 2013 celebrates the establishment 126-years ago of the state-sponsored Combined Normal and Industrial Department at Wilberforce University, which later became Central State University and a member of the University System of Ohio. We celebrate our rich history, traditions, and graduates and the promise that Central State University holds for future students. This year the University adds to that history the inauguration of its first female president.

Since taking the office on July 1, 2012, Dr. Jackson-Hammond has identified six Compelling Priorities for the University:

  • Quality collegiate/academic experiences for every student
  • Targeted diverse student enrollment
  • Reduced time to degree
  • Better retention rates and higher graduation rates
  • Efficient and effective institutional operations
  • Graduating students with the appropriate knowledge, skills and dispositions for professional careers or advanced degrees

Administration, faculty, and staff are partners in achieving the objectives of these priorities and are engaged in a variety of ways to ensure that Central State University remains a vital and necessary institution for students seeking a quality college experience.

Along with the Compelling Priorities, the tenets of Service, Protocol and Civility have become the focus for uniquely identifying the Central State University (CSU) student. Dr. Jackson-Hammond believes that these tenets have long embodied the essence of alumni and will serve as the foundation for the academic and personal development of every current and future CSU student.  In the six-plus months since President Jackson-Hammond’s arrival, change across campus is evident. One by one, students are embracing the tenets and the essence of the CSU Man and Woman.

The Planning Committee for the Charter Day and Inauguration celebration look forward to you visiting our campus and celebrating with the faculty, staff and students of Central State University. Information regarding the March 4-7 activities can be accessed by clicking here.
