Mission

The Department of Professional Education and Music is the primary unit within the College of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Education (CHASE) to prepare educators as teachers for Pre-Kindergarten level to grade 12 classrooms. The department has a collaborative partnership with local and distance schools to provide clinical experiences and program development.

Educator Preparation Programs (EPP)

  • The Department of Professional Education offers and coordinates degree programs leading to teaching licenses for the subject areas and grade levels listed:

     

    • Agricultural Education, grades 4-12 
    • Educational Studies (EDS) (Non-Licensure)  (Available Online)
    • Primary (PK-5) Education, Pre-Kindergarten level through grade 5  (Available Online)
    • Intervention Specialist Education – (Mild/Moderate) Kindergarten level through grade 12  (Available Online)
    • Integrated Language Arts Education, grades 7-12
    • Integrated Mathematics Education, grades 7-12
    • Integrated Social Studies Education, grades 7-12
    • Life Science Education, grades 7-12
    • Physical Science Education, grades 7-12
    • Middle Childhood Education (Select 2 Teaching Areas) - Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, grades 4-9
    • Music Education, K-12 (In collaboration with the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences)

Post Baccalaureate Route and Transfer Students

Post Baccalaureate/ Non-Degree Seeking Student

The Department of Professional Education and Music offers a post-baccalaureate route to teacher licensure. The post-baccalaureate route is designed for individuals who have completed their baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and who wish to obtain an initial teaching license. Individuals interested in seeking admission to Post Baccalaureate status should consult the University Office of Admissions or the appropriate Department.

Transfer Students

Students transferring from another institution must submit an official transcript and obtain a transcript evaluation before program admission.
