Central State beats Mississippi Valley State in Chicago

CHICAGO — Central State University kicked a late fourth-quarter field goal to top Mississippi Valley State 24-21 in the teams' season opener at the Chicago Football Classic on Soldier Field, the Associated Press reported on Sept. 3.

It was the 25th anniversary of the game featuring Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and the first since 2019.

The five-day event included an HBCU Family Reunion and College Fair, HBCU Day at the Chicago Cubs, Wrigley Field, a golf outing and luncheon, a Greek Step Show, the Battle of the Bands Showcase & Pep Rally, a teen event, a Vendor Fair supporting Black businesses, and more.
