Community Service Day
Central State University is excited to welcome approximately 200 local students in grades 5-8 and community members for Community Service Day. The event, sponsored by Central State University Extension in partnership with Central State University, aims to introduce students to careers in STEM and agriculture, and healthy living through hands-on activities, educational sessions, and inspiring guest speakers. It is free and open to the public.
Students will participate in tours of the water resources and soils labs, giving them a firsthand look at scientific research and careers in environmental sciences. They will also explore wellness and nutrition at the Healthy Living Fair, where student organizations will showcase important health initiatives. The visit to the Central State campus is a culmination of educational outreach that includes CSU Extension educators visiting classrooms to provide demonstrations and interactive activities on cooking, nutrition, and healthy living.

As a child, Shaun Hamilton struggled with a severe stuttering speech disorder, which led educators to label him a slow learner. When he switched elementary schools, Shaun begged his parents not to disclose his past placement. After joining an after-school jump rope program, he developed new skills, and his stuttering gradually diminished due to better brain synchronization. Eventually, Shaun excelled as a scholar-athlete in high school and went on to become a World Jump Rope Champion.
Students will be treated to a free lunch, while community members are welcome to purchase meals at the Marauder Cafeteria.
