Faculty-led study abroad course proposals

The Central State University Center for International Education (CIE) is ready to be your guide as you launch into academic adventure! Crafting a course proposal is the first step to travel on a faculty-led study abroad program with CIE. The staff in Wesley 314 is prepared to help you customize, promote, and voyage into new classes of awareness.

  • Faculty are required to submit a proposal for a study abroad course in order to formally express interest in developing a course, organize logistics details for course study, and receive appropriate approvals from department and college administrators.

All required documents, including a syllabus, program budget, program design, and in-country daily itinerary, will be reviewed by CIE. Once a proposal receives final approval from all administrators, the faculty member will be given directions to follow the Post-Approval process.

  • After a faculty-led course proposal has been approved, CIE staff will meet with the faculty member to discuss program promotion, including marketing materials, meetings and informational scheduling, and financial aid communications. CIE staff will remain in communication with all departments and participants as the course readies for departure.

  • Complete instructions for developing your Faculty-Led Study Abroad course can be found in the Faculty-Led Handbook. This guide offers a complete description of:

    • Program Leader and CIE Responsibilities
    • Course Planning
    • Pre-Departure Responsibilities
    • On-Site Responsibilities, and
    • Post-Program Responsibilities.

CIE staff is always prepared to respond to questions and offer guidance as faculty complete study abroad course proposals.

In order to plan a successful faculty-led study abroad program, we highly recommended that you start planning 14-16 months before departure.
