Library Updates
OhioLINK has selected Ex Libris Alma as the consortium’s next shared library services platform. The new cloud-based platform will enhance library user experiences and services, improve efficiencies for day-to-day operations, and streamline collaboration and consortia functionality. The implementation process for OhioLINK’s 117 member libraries is expected to take up to two years.
New Library System
As a member of the Ohio Library and Information Network (OhioLINK), the Central State University Library (along with all academic libraries in Ohio) will be migrating to a new Integrated Library System (ILS) in June 2025. The new system will enhance the discoverability of the library's collections.
During the migration, research databases, e-journals, e-book collections, and streaming media content will continue to be available.
What is a library system?
The library system Alma/Primo VE includes the online catalog which provides access to library resources including e-books, e-journals, articles, physical books, media, and more. It also controls day-to-day library operations such as checking out materials, cataloging, ordering, and receiving library resources. The library system generates the underlying data that drives business decisions and reporting.
What is changing?
The stand-alone CSU library catalog and OhioLINK catalog will be retired in June 2025. Both catalogs will be replaced by a new discovery product, Primo VE that searches all library resources for Central State and OhioLINK including articles, books, e-books, journals, e-journals, media, and more.
What are the benefits?
- The new library system will enable one-stop-searching for Central State University and OhioLINK resources; users will no longer need to search both the Central State catalog and the OhioLINK catalog separately
- Interlibrary loan will be integrated in the new library system
- The new system is a secure, stable, cloud-based system, and is the most-used library software in academic libraries
- This library system was purchased through OhioLINK capital funding with no implementation costs for Central State University; ongoing costs are commensurate with our current library system costs
