Anshiya Ramanitharan, health and wellness coordinator for Central State University Extension, shares the value of sustainable farming with youth at the 168th Ohio State Fair. Central State is Ohio's only public Historically Black College or University (HBCU) and 1890 Land-Grant Institution.

The designation came in 2014, more than a century after the federal government created the first set of Land-Grant institutions among HBCUs. These institutions were formed as public agricultural and mechanical colleges for Black students who were largely shut out of higher education.

Today, CSU is one of 19 Land-Grant universities across the United States established in 1890. We are realizing our mission by pushing further into the future with innovation as we educate more students in ag-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
