Central State University to sponsor Cincinnati Music Festival celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop
Central State University is a proud sponsor of the 2023 Cincinnati Music Festival, which will feature an inspiring program celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop and a star-studded lineup including Snoop Dogg and Al Green.
The Cincinnati Music Festival, presented by P&G, is scheduled for July 20-22. Established in 1962 as the Ohio Valley Jazz Festival, the CMF has grown into a spectacular three-day event on Cincinnati’s riverfront. Over the years, the former all-jazz concert has evolved into a festival featuring music from some of the hottest and up-and-coming stars in R&B, jazz, soul, and hip-hop, according to the event website.
Past performers have included such legends as Aretha Franklin, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, Gerald Levert, Patti Labelle, New Edition, Earth Wind and Fire, Lakeside, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, and Janet Jackson.
“Central State has a storied history of excellence in music and the arts, including educating prolific entertainers such as the legendary Nancy Wilson. This academic year, we are welcoming American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino-Taylor to Central State Global, our online division,” said Tiffiney Gray, vice president of Institutional Advancement at Central State and executive director of the Central State University Foundation. “We’re thrilled to be a part of this history-making festival and look forward to advancing awareness of our mission and the opportunities that exist for students interested in attending the HBCU of the Midwest.”
The Admissions and Financial Aid offices will host a one-stop shop to share information about the historic institution, including how to apply, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Attendees can discover Central and explore options to attend the scenic campus in Wilberforce, Central State University-Dayton, or Central State Global, enabling high school graduates to select the right pathway for themselves.
Central State students, faculty, staff, and alumni are eligible to receive $10 off the regular ticket price using the discount code CSU23. To claim the discount, purchase your tickets by calling 513-924-0900.
Central State is Ohio’s only public Historically Black College or University (HBCU) and 1890 Land-Grant Institution.
