Central State University welcomes Tony Carter as new head football coach

Central State University officially turned the page to a new era in its football program with the introduction of Tony Carter as the Marauders’ new head coach. The announcement was made during a press conference at Madison W. Beacom/Gaston F. Lewis Gymnasium, marking a pivotal step in the University’s mission to revitalize its athletic legacy with fresh leadership and renewed ambition.

The event drew a spirited crowd of media representatives, University administrators, faculty and staff, and proud football alumni, all eager to welcome Coach TC. The Marauders cheer team set the tone with an energetic display of school pride before Assistant Athletic Director Brad Kocher kicked off the event as he reflected on the rich history of Marauder football and the goal of restoring past success.

Athletic Director Kevicia Brown officially introduced Coach TC, emphasizing his ability to inspire, instill discipline, and cultivate a mindset for greatness. “In Coach TC, we have found a leader who has demonstrated time and again the ability to inspire, cultivate discipline, and instill a mindset to achieve greatness," she said.

Taking the podium, Coach TC spoke passionately about his approach to coaching, highlighting the importance of meeting student-athletes where they are and supporting their journey. 

“Sometimes you meet people where you want them to be, instead of where they are,” Carter explained, adding: 

“We are going to meet kids where they are and pour into their journey — whether they need academic support or personal development, we are committed to making them better.”

He also emphasized his commitment to structure, discipline, and fostering an environment where students can thrive both on and off the field.

With spring football practices set to begin, the Marauders are eager to lay the groundwork for a new era of success. These sessions will be instrumental in shaping a culture of discipline, determination, and excellence — key elements in restoring Central State’s proud football tradition.

Central State University President Morakinyo A.O. Kuti expressed confidence in Carter’s leadership, affirming the positive impact he expects the new coach to have. “I am confident that under Carter’s leadership, our football players will succeed on the field, in the classroom, and in society, becoming leaders in the community,” he said.
