Elephant ears: Did you hear?

Brian Kampman, vegetable and small fruit crops technician for Central State University (CSU) Extension, stands by a floral display cultivated at CSU including Elephant Ears or Colocasia

Brian Kampman, vegetable and small fruit crops technician at Central State University Extension, stands proudly next to a beautiful floral display on campus. The display has become quite popular on social media, largely due to the presence of the elephant ear plant, a flowering plant native to southeastern Asia and the Indian subcontinent.

During the winter months, Kampman stored the elephant ear bulbs in the aquaponics greenhouse in a dormant state. In March, he planted them in pots to prepare them for transfer to larger pots at Emery Hall.

As he was planting in May, seedling salvia plants began to emerge, and he added them to the mix of potted plants.

If you're in the Wilberforce, Ohio area, stop by Emery Hall on the Central State University campus and take a photo next to this stunning display. It's simply beautiful!
