
Central State University appoints Dr. Shuna McMichael as Assistant Vice President for Sponsored Programs Administration

Central State University is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Shuna McMichael as the new Assistant Vice President for Sponsored Programs Administration, effective June 1.

Dr. McMichael brings more than two decades of experience in establishing, leading, and managing dynamic research enterprises, with a distinguished career spanning research leadership, operations, regulatory compliance, and administrative oversight.
“Words cannot express my enthusiasm to be joining the Central State University community,” Dr. McMichael said. “I am very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of an Institution rich in culture. I am looking forward to contributing to the innovative approaches necessary to sustain and continuously grow the research enterprise for decades to come.”
As a Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Dr. McMichael has held key roles in interdisciplinary research environments throughout the Southern California region, with a particular expertise in supporting research growth at Predominantly Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs).

Dr. McMichael is nationally recognized as a subject-matter expert in research enterprise development. She serves as an instructor for the Society of Research Administrators International (SRAI) and is a committee member for its Leadership Certificate Program. She also serves as Traveling Faculty for the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) in the area of Financial Research Administration and was recently appointed to the prestigious NCURA Peer Review team.
Dr. McMichael earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education. In addition to her administrative leadership, she contributes to academic development as a graduate adjunct professor in the Master of Organizational Leadership program at Martin University.
Being a passionate advocate for mentorship and professional development, Dr. McMichael dedicates time to supporting emerging professionals in research administration through one-on-one mentorship and career guidance.
Dr. McMichael’s appointment underscores Central State University’s commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and Institutional growth. Her leadership will enhance the University's ability to pursue strategic funding opportunities and foster a robust culture of research across disciplines.
